Munnar - the Hill Station of Kerala in Idukki

Munnar is one of the coolest tourist destinations of south India. Situated at 1600 meter above sea level, this magical hill station offers a great variety of choices like lakes, reservoirs, mountain streams, scab row rocks, wooded valleys, wavy grass hills, tea plantations, hurling waterfalls, fragrant cardamom bushes, adventurous elephant herds and a beautiful landscape painted with colonial bungalows and buildings. Munnar is a favorite spot for the adventurous tourists with the facilities like trekking, camping, rock climbing, parasailing, gliding and fishing. The Nilgiris or Blue Mountains got its name from the blue flowers of Neelakurinji that blossoms once in every 12 years.

Geography

Munnar hill station is located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above sea level,in the Western Ghats range of mountains.

By Road
State-run or private buses, plying from various towns in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, are the best way to get to Munnar by road

By Rail

The nearest railway station from Munnar is at Aluva, which is at a distance of 110 kilometres from Munnar

By Air
Munnar Hill station is about 106 Km (66 Miles) east of Cochin International Airport(COK).
